Luca Guadagnino’s Queer: Everything We Know So Far

Director: Luca Guadagnino, known for his successes like Call Me by Your Name, Bones and All, and Challengers, brings his unique cinematic style to this LGBTQIA+ film.

The Film: Queer is an adaptation of Burroughs' novel, which is a sequel to Junkie and a part of Burroughs' acclaimed body of work, including Naked Lunch. The story centers on William Lee, played by Daniel Craig, an expat in his late 40s living in the "Interzone" between Mexico City and Panama. Lee forms an intense connection with Eugene Allerton, a young drug addict, sparking a complicated and emotional journey.

Cast: The film stars Daniel Craig as William Lee, alongside Drew Starkey, Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Andra Ursuta, Michael Borremans, and David Lowery. Craig's role marks a significant departure from his usual action-packed James Bond persona, offering a more introspective and complex character.

Premieres: Queer will have its world premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2024. It will also screen at the Toronto International Film Festival and be the Spotlight Gala at the New York Film Festival.

Run Time: The film will be approximately three hours long.

Distribution: A24 has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the film, and it is set for release later in 2024.

With Guadagnino's knack for deep emotional storytelling, Queer is shaping up to be a must-see, particularly for fans of his previous works and Burroughs' provocative writing. Are you looking forward to this release?
